  Textile students have taken inspiration from motifs and words used to signal ideas and reflect cultural Zeitgeist. Jewellery have worked to the theme of repurposing materials alongside traditional jewellery making skills. While our stained glass students have developed designs to introduce colour and light to a given space.

  This exhibition is a showcase of the Textile Foundation students personal final projects. The works on show has been made over the 10-week summer term and are a culmination of two terms of learning and making.

  The show realises the students鈥� determination to navigate both digital and analogue landscapes, bringing fresh perspectives to creative communications.

Situated in an old pub adjacent to the main College building, 快播成人网 Gallery occupies the whole of the basement and ground floors with six imposing windows facing Westminster Bridge Road and King Edward Walk.

The Gallery team works alongside colleagues and students across all three 快播成人网 teaching sites to mount a comprehensive exhibition programme, which usually includes exhibitions of painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, installations, digital and sound art by independent artists and groups.

Embracing the beat of the city, new classes resonate with innovation and opportunity, offering a platform for students to explore, create, and thrive in the dynamic world of music. 

These courses include Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music Industry Skills and BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance or Production where students can dive into the world of music.  

Luke Lount 鈥� Programme Area Manager for Music in North Kensington 鈥� gave us insights into the programme, the facilities and future opportunities in W10.   

Q: What sets apart the music education experience at the North Kensington Centre for Skills from other institutions?  

Luke: We offer our students specialist tuition in brand new, custom-built facilities with a tailored approach to learning. Due to our smaller class sizes, we can offer a more customised experience to our learners, offering them a range of internal and external opportunities to help them pursue their goals.   

Q: What types of facilities and resources are available?  

Luke: Students have access to first class facilities at NK. Our custom-built recording studio is industry-standard and features three independent live rooms that can be connected to allow for the live capture of a diverse range of performances. The Mac production and composition studio is designed to be a working space for artists and producers, offering new equipment and a station per student. Finally, the rehearsal rooms are a specially designed workspace suitable for performance and live sound. Students at NK also have access to 快播成人网 Radio’s studios as well as the brand new Main Hall for performances. 

Q: Could you elaborate on any special initiatives that are integrated into the curriculum?  

Luke: NK offers a variety of special programmes, workshops, and masterclasses to enrich students’ learning experiences. These include coveted work placements at renowned studios like and , backstage access at and the , mentorship through Creative Networks, and exposure to industry-active lecturers.  

Q: How does collaboration play a role in the music programme at NK?  

Luke: Collaboration is central to NK’s music programme, fostering interdisciplinary engagement and practical learning. Production students work closely with performers, recording and mixing compositions, while performers create music for producers. Furthermore, students are encouraged to collaborate across different subject areas, exploring the multifaceted nature of music.  

Q: What career pathways can graduates of the music programme expect?  

Luke: While it’s early to predict specific career pathways, graduates of NK’s music programme are equipped with practical skills and industry insights, priming them for diverse careers in performance, production, composition, and beyond. Their education and experiential learning pave the way for a harmonious future in the realm of music.  

Student experiences within the programme 

Malachi and Ramon are two students who are currently enrolled in the music programme at NK. They both spoke about their experience in the course, what caught their eye and advice for future students.   

What drew you to the course?   

Malachi: 鈥淚 have had a passion for music for a long time. It is around my family who have been involved in music for a long time. My dad, brother and uncle are all musicians. I guess it is the history of my family making music that made me want to start making music.鈥�  

Ramon: 鈥淚 have always wanted to do something within music. When I was younger I participated in a lot of different musical activities, although I never took it further. London is a city where there are lots of creative activities and I just wanted to go for it.鈥�  

What is your favourite part of the course?   

Malachi: 鈥淚 am a producer and love beat making. I love creating my own beat with drums, bass and experimenting with different genres.鈥� 

Ramon: 鈥淭he studio and the sound engineering. All of the desk, how the tech side of things works. It is great to have these professional faculties to use throughout the programme.鈥� 

Any advice for further students?   

Malachi: 鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to try all different aspects of music. Try not to narrow yourself down to one thing; there is so much out there and you never know what you might end up loving. You don鈥檛 have to be the biggest artist, there are so many different types of roles.鈥�  

Ramon: 鈥淒o your research on a programme. You don鈥檛 need to know exactly what you want to do but it is always good to shop around for a programme that suits you.鈥�

Funds have been made available to support contemporary figurative artists of promise working primarily in painting and drawing to study for one year at 快播成人网 College London, thanks to the generosity of the 鈥�Alfred Teddy Smith and Zsuzsi Roboz Art Trust鈥�. 

In鈥痶his context鈥疐颈驳耻谤补迟颈惫别鈥痯rimarily refers to鈥痙rawing and painting or sculpture related to human form and other forms of figuration that depicts people and considers the politics of representation. 鈥�� 

快播成人网 College delivers education to adults aged 19 and over. It is based near Waterloo in London. 快播成人网鈥檚 Visual Arts department is extremely highly regarded and offers a wide range of art courses from drawing and painting to ceramics and from sculpture to print-making, photography and digital media at all levels from beginners to further and higher education. 

The Scholarship offers the recipient one year鈥檚 part-time programme of free classes at 快播成人网 College, personal tutoring and mentoring from a professional artist and teacher, and an opportunity to exhibit work in our Gallery at the end of the year. 

Eligibility

The Scholarship is intended for a committed artist who have a developed artistic vision, but who need assistance or support with the next steps of their career.

• You must be a figurative artist of promise and quality who needs this opportunity to develop.
• You are working primarily in 2D media
• You must be aged 19 or over in September 2024
• You must be willing to commit to part-time study over a year 鈥� three academic terms during which you will undertake a tailored programme of part-time courses each term, followed by a period of preparation with a view to holding an exhibition of your work in September 2024

It is the applicant鈥檚 responsibility to provide a completed application, with all component parts by the deadline of midnight on Saturday 29 June 2024听

• 3 statements of maximum 200 words each on the following:

James is currently  at Anglia Ruskin University. Prior to this, he was Deputy Dean at Ravensbourne University London, a key partner in 快播成人网鈥檚 Higher Education strategy.

James is currently a member of the college鈥檚 Governing Body, and will step down as a governor before taking up his new role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Do you need advise on how to up-cycle or mend your clothes. Join our textiles team who will be on hand to show you examples of upcycling and visible mending. Feel free to bring your clothing items that you need directional support on how to mend them. The team will provide basic needles and thread and embroidery thread and scrap fabrics for applique. The team will also provide you with some instructional handouts to take away if you are interested. This is a a casual drop-in workshop.

Wednesday 24 April – 12:30 – 4:00pm at Waterloo (Emma Cons Hall): My Green Pledge

Community learning is hosting ‘My Green Pledge’ in the Emma Cons Hall for Sustainability week. The event will involve interactive workshops, group discussions, vegan/vegetarian snacks and goody bags! All students are welcome to attend, there is no need to book your spot.

Friday 26 April 鈥� 2:30pm 鈥� 5:00pm at Waterloo Garden: Pollinator Friendly Planting in the Waterloo Garden 

Planting Wild Scabious plug plants in suitable locations. With a long flowering period, this is one of the best plants to attract a variety of pollinators and will hopefully self-seed for the coming year. We are looking for volunteers to help with the planting and this will be exciting to watch the plant grow as the seasons come and go.

On the evening of 26 March, 130 attendees came together to celebrate a century of 快播成人网’s tenure at 61 Westminster Bridge Road.

Waterloo100 was more than just an event; it was a journey through time, exploring the rich history, experiencing the vibrant present and envisioning the exciting future of the Waterloo Centre for Adult Education.

Performances and exciting conversations

The night commenced with speeches from Dr. Andrew Gower, Principal of 快播成人网, and Bushra Iqbal, Centre Principal at Waterloo, who spoke about the history of the Waterloo Centre as well as plans for its future.

快播成人网鈥檚 Big Band – in both its ‘beginners’ and full guises – gave a great performance and played beautifully.

The Big Band was accompanied by Mark Ferrigan, who sang a few songs to conclude the performance, contributing to a celebratory atmosphere that showcased 快播成人网鈥檚 music students and their dedication to learning.

Touring the past 100 years

Members of staff hosted guided tours that took guests on an immersive exploration of the Waterloo Centre, delving into its fascinating history and showcasing its iconic spaces.

Throughout the college there were live classes, captivating exhibitions, insightful re-enactments and the dynamic 快播成人网 Radio, every corner resonating with the spirit of 快播成人网’s enduring legacy.

As tours concluded, guests gathered in the Emma Cons Hall to indulge in delectable food and beverages whilst networking with other members of the 快播成人网 community.

To celebrate 100 years at Waterloo, the college hosted a competition for a lucky attendee to win a FREE short course at the Waterloo Centre.

Bushra expressed her excitement, calling Waterloo100 “a night to remember” and noting her appreciation of everyone who was part of this historic celebration.

Informed with employers’ input, HTQs offer the latest industry-relevant training which employers have said they need. They offer students the right training, knowledge, and skills to succeed in the workplace. 

We met up with Melanie Butcher, Higher Technical Qualifications Lead at 快播成人网, to learn more about HTQs and how they can influence adult education and career ambitions. 

Q: What are Higher Technical Qualifications? 

Mel: Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are new Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers to equip students with the necessary training, knowledge, and skills they need to succeed in the workplace.  

As part of the government’s higher technical education reforms, HTQs serve as a viable alternative to apprenticeships or degrees, filling the gap between A levels or T Levels and degrees.  

From September 2024, 快播成人网 will introduce a range of Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) and additional fully 鈥� funded Level 4 and Level 5 courses designed to offer a practical skill 鈥� based approach to careers in business, finance and healthcare, ensuring students are equipped with the sought-after skills that employers are looking for. 

Q. Could you tell us more about what Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications are… 

Mel: Of course, higher education can be confusing with its different levels and titles. Education is traditionally measured in levels beginning at entry and working up so for instance a student studying A levels would be at Level 3.  

Level 4 and 5 are higher education levels that would encompass studying at a higher level at college or university, for example on a degree or postgraduate level of study. HTQs are classed as Level 4 and 5 dependent on the course.

Q: Who can benefit from HTQs? 

HTQs are tailored for individuals aged 18 and above seeking to enhance their skill set, pursue new career paths, or attain formal qualifications. 

Q: How are HTQs delivered? 

All our HTQs will be a blend of classroom-based sessions in college, live webinars and interactive e-learning, with an emphasis on developing practical and transferable skills for work-based scenarios.  

Q: What financial support is available for HTQ students? 

Mel: Students may apply for tuition fee loans, maintenance loans, and grants depending on their circumstances and the type of HTQ being pursued. 

These loans and grants can help cover tuition fees, living costs, and other educational expenses.

• HND in Leadership and Management for England (HTQ) 
• HND Healthcare Professions’ Support for England (HTQ)听
• OTHM L4 Diploma in Project Management 听
• OTHM L4 Diploma in Accounting Business 听
  

Q: Tell us more about the free fully 鈥� funded module? 

Mel: Yes, and this is really exciting… we are able to offer learners a free module, fully 鈥� funded by the government.  

Learners can select a free module of their choice from the Leadership and Management HTQ course. The free modules on key business topics have all been designed to equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed in leadership and management roles across a range of different sectors.    

They can choose one of the following modules: 

• Module 1: Human Resources and Leadership & Management L4  
• Module 2: Accounting Principles and Project Management L4  
• Module 3: Business Strategy, Communications and Relationship Management L5  
• Module 4: Business information Technology Systems, Data Analytics, and Insights L5  

These modules provide learners the chance to explore the Leadership and Management course while earning a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC), paving the way for promotion, career development and progression to further HE study such as the full Leadership and Management HTQ course.

Shirley Smart’s trio draws on a rich tapestry of musical influences drawn from 10 years spent living in Jerusalem in the overlapping worlds of North African, Arabic, Balkan music and jazz.鈥�

Double Concert: Maya Keys Solo Flute and Robert Mitchell’s True Think

Maya Keys performs two contemporary pieces based on a Native American god Kokopelli by the Hopi tribe (United States) and another contemporary piece based on Japanese flute motifs with a familiar appearance by Bach’s Partita in la minor for solo flute, come take a journey through time and space! 

Newly-appointed artist-in-residence Robert Mitchell鈥檚 True Think is a multi-generational, multi-cultural reflection of several periods of the pianist鈥檚 journey. They perform the music from their new recording encompassing powerful songs of protest, love and peace blending electronic, jazz, RnB, spoken word, film and folk.
