What you will learn

The course focuses on solo guitar, studying arrangements that combine both melody聽and harmony. Further develop your finger picking skills through playing聽Delta & Country Blues finger-style songs.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Play Blues finger style picking arrangements in open G tuning
  • Play Blues finger style picking arrangement in standard E tuning
  • Read music and guitar tab聽
  • Navigate the Fretboard independently using blues boxes to play licks
  • Use the thumb to articulate droning and alternating bass notes
  • Combine melody (finger) and harmony (thumb) in complete finger picking聽arrangements
  • Apply string bending, hammers, pull offs and slides
  • Play with confidence in a group and on your own

Listening to tutor explanation and demonstration聽 Group tuition and group performance Playing to and with others in the class In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course,聽you will receive regular feedback in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

To have ideally completed Acoustic Guitar 4A or have equivalent playing聽experience at that level.聽 Prior to this course students will have successfully applied barre chords and聽have a good understanding of the CAGED system and are now in a position where they are looking combine lead and rhythm playing. Students should have previously played Travis picking and are adept at all slur techniques (including bends) Students should be able to read guitar tab and rhythm notation to a good standard.

What you need to know before you enrol

You will need to be willing and able to do short, regular practice sessions between classes: at least 15-20 minutes, at least 4 times a week. Online enrolment on term 2 of this course, starting in January is only available to those enrolled in the previous term.If you are a current student you will have received an email alerting you to this. 6-string acoustic guitar , A4 folder Notebook/Progression Diary Pencil and聽Eraser Capo All sheet music and learning resources will be provided Tutor will supply all sheet music.
