What you will learn

The glass advanced course at the 快播成人网 College, North Kensington Centre is ideal for those with existing experience in Glass wishing to increase both glass technical and design skills through negotiated self-directed projects, as well as develop a more professional approach. The course is structured to cater to the specific needs of the group, and as such, covers a wide range of techniques, from advanced kiln-formed glass to architectural stained glass. Whilst working on own and group projects, you will be encouraged to experiment with different methods of making, extend techniques and develop personal work and visual identity through individual guidance and support. New and returning students work alongside each other in a mutually supportive environment in which you will learn both from your glass lecturer and each other. Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explore and develop your chosen making skills from Kiln formed glass and or architectural glass working in 2D and 3D projects.
  • Work independently and with confidence with the technique and process at relevant stages of the glass-making process in order to develop individual project work.
  • Develop an awareness of historical and contemporary approaches in glass.
  • Demonstrate awareness of Health and Safety issues in glass through safe studio practice, with consideration towards others.

Class format and activities

You will work independently to design and make kiln-formed glass forms using a range of design and technical skills. You will practice and develop both skill and creativity through personal project work, with guidance from your tutor. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both presentation, discussion and demonstration. Informal assessment will take place on a continual basis throughout the course using observation, and a group Learner presentation at the end of the course outlining the development of individual projects. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

This course is not suitable for beginners. This should include a good understanding of the glass process, kiln formed glass and/or architectural glass techniques. The fee includes tuition, some materials, alongside use of specialist equipment, including glass kiln firings etc. Learners will be expected to purchase their own Kiln-formed glass materials such as alternative glass types (guidance will be given by the tutor on the first session). You may need to purchase your own small tools, and possibly some additional materials depending on individual projects, as advised by your tutor. What you need to know before you enrol

Students will be expected to follow physical distancing guidance. There is a reduced course maximum of students in the studio which has been adapted to facilitate a Covid-safe learning environment. We have a basic tool in the workshop which has been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment, but we recommend bring and use you own tools. We advise that you also bring and wear a face protector. Students are asked to bring their own apron or coveralls to wear in the studio and a personal hand towel, both to take home and wash between sessions. if you have any concerns or requirements from the course, please discuss this with your tutor who will be happy to give guidance, or assistance if required. The glass studio is on the 3rd floor and there is lift access.

What you need

Bring a notebook, sketchbook, pen & marker pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have basic tools in the workshop which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. Glass and other materials are available for sale to students, however, Learners may want to buy or bring in their own resources, to have a wider variety in choice of materials.
