What you will learn

This course will offer both introductory and intermediate in relief printing techniques using transferring your own design onto lino prints and working with stencils. You will explore methods of printmaking processes working with glass, enamels and powders producing beautiful patterns, colours and textured surfaces using kiln formed glass processes. Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • You will gain a good overview of the use of materials to transfer images onto glass.
  • Apply techniques and processes safely under health and safety guidelines
  • Identify and evaluate the suitability of selected materials within each technique and process
  • Identify the technique and process at relevant stages when using relieve methods using kiln formed glass processes.

Class format and activities

You will be working on set tasks and processes guided by your expert glass tutor, Maria Zulueta. Teaching takes place in a practical workshop setting, including both demonstration and discussion. To ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

The course is suitable for students of all levels of experience, including complete beginners, and is perfect for anyone interested in learning, or further exploring glass techniques.

What you need to know before you enrol

The fee includes tuition, specialist materials, alongside use of specialist equipment, including metal leaves and sizes for gilding. However, Learners will be expected to pay small fee for enamels and glass (guidance will be given by the tutor on the first session).

What you need

It would be helpful to bring a sketchbook/notebook, pencils/pen/marker pen etc. You will need to wear sturdy shoes, boots, or trainers (no open sandals); an apron. We have basic tools in the workshop, which have been adapted to facilitate a safe learning environment. Glass and other materials are available for sale to students; however, Learners may want to buy or bring in their own resources to have a wider variety in choice of materials.
