What you will learn

Suitable for beginners, this course will introduce basic techniques for providing sound reinforcement – whether for bands, conferences, church or open-air events. Set-up and run a live PA system using a digital mixing desk. Learn how to use complex audio FX chains and routing to record and mix live. You will also set-up and run a PA at a live gig at the end of term.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Sound engineer live gigs
  • Use a digital mixing desk
  • Create your own custom presets on a digital mixer
  • Record live audio
  • Handle multiple layers of audio inputs, outputs, and auxiliary busses

Entry requirements

You will have a strong interest in music and audio equipment.

What you need to know before you enrol

Handling and lifting of audio equipment such as microphone stands, cables, speakers and mixer consoles are an essential part of this class. Advice on safe handling of equipment will be given at the beginning of the course. Due to the nature of the instruments/content of the course you might be exposed to high volume levels. We strongly encourage everyone to bring a pair of ear plugs to every lesson.
